STRONGER TOGETHER

Would you agree that being a woman is hard enough?

Though we live in so-called modern times and there have already been strides to improve women’s rights, the playing field is still far from level. In a world where women still face injustice, discrimination and unrealistic expectations, the last thing we need is to turn against each other. Yet, still it happens a lot more often than it should.

Women are expected to juggle housework, taking care of kids and managing their own careers while still looking pretty and put together. Despite all that, there is still a huge salary gap between males and females. Women are losing leadership positions to men because they are judged as being too soft. Women are constantly being judged for the smallest of details, even imaginary ones constructed by society.

We know all too well the struggles that come with being a woman.  So why do we add to each other’s burdens? When will we realize that tearing another woman apart weakens us all?

Let’s be honest- we have all been guilty of judging another woman without understanding her situation. Maybe it’s jealousy or a feeling of righteousness. Whatever the reason, this cycle of negativity has to stop.

Did your coworker got a promotion you felt you deserved? Instead of feeling resentment, offer her your congratulations and take her out for drinks. She probably worked hard to earn it. Continue to do your best work and trust that your time will come sooner thank you think.

Maybe your best friend is planning her dream wedding while you’re still navigating the dating scene. Instead of wallowing in self-pity, lend a helping hand and share in the joy of her big day.

Our fellow women deserve to be celebrated, not competed against. They deserve our support, not our competition.

It’s difficult to progress towards a friendlier, more compassionate world for women if we keep bringing each other down. We need to look beyond jealousy, cattiness and pettiness to foster a culture of support among women.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you look, where you came from, where you live, how much money you make or what job you hold.

We are women.

We are all beautiful in our own way and need to recognize beauty in our own selves as well as in one other. If we stop dragging each other down and start uplifting each other, we can help create an environment where women can grow, thrive and flourish. Wouldn’t it be amazing to see more women inspiring one another and treating each other better?

We hold the power. Together, we are unstoppable.
